Our Strategy

Developed a test market through a Walnuts in Schools Pilot Program to introduce students and school foodservice professionals to the versatility and health benefits of walnuts to increase use


  • Partnered with Sweetwater Union High School District to serve walnuts on school menus in a two-phase pilot program to more than 42,000 culturally diverse students
  • Obtained individualized student feedback on recipes prior to district-wide launch
    • 78% would eat walnuts again if they were offered in school meals
  • Served California walnuts on the school breakfast and lunch menu¬†4 times per week for 1 month in 23 schools across the district
  • Secured placement in School Nutrition Magazine to promote the new school foodservice toolkit
